I have received many phone calls regarding the rumours and
incorrect talk regarding the introduction of the new training
package and the requirement for Cat H firearm licence holders
to upgrade to Cert 3.
The Security Regulations and Amendments
will be gazetted on the 1st September 2006.
All security licence holders will be contacted
by the Security Industry Registry (SIR) in writing, after
September, regarding the new requirements.
Regarding current licence holders the common
question asked regarding extra courses, upgrades and an RPL
is:
Question: Do I need to do anything
now?
Answer: No. You are not required to do anything until
you receive written advice from the Security Industry Registry.
So don't believe the rumours and scare tactics
of some training companies who are trying to drum up business.
Wait until you receive your letter from SIR
and by then I will be able to offer you the correct advice
as to how to maintain your firearm licence and the time that
you will have to complete your upgrade.
